The Museum is located in Pietrabuona (Pescia) and has its headquarters in the eighteenth-century Cartiera Le Carte. The institution was founded with the intention of preserving and passing on the ancient art of processing and manufacturing “handmade paper” and to raise awareness of the importance and evolution of paper production, an activity that has been present in the Pescia area since end of the 15th century. The Museum thus becomes the tool for spreading this knowledge, making it discovered and appreciated by those who do not know it. The Paper Museum also has the Historical Archive of the Ancient Magnani Paper Mills of Pescia consisting of over 600 linear meters of documents: a journey of over 300 years in the history of an internationally famous paper company.
The visit to the museum includes a visit to the Paper Mill Le Carte and the Sala Filigrane of the Magnani Historical Archive: The proposal includes a visit to the restored industrial building and the narration of the history of the Magnani family and its rise in the entrepreneurial landscape of the time. A visit to the Filigrane Room of the Magnani Historical Archive is also planned.
The traditional visit is accompanied by an experience for adults and children, linked to the tradition of water, which can be chosen and decided according to the day of the visit and the availability of the museum.
